I heard recently that the definition to the word hero was, loosely, "a person who gives a shit and does something about it." How ironic to someone like me that sees heroes everywhere she goes.

A child, daring to stand up against a bully, blood dripping down their face.

A mother, standing in front of her child with arms outstretched, becoming a visible target to her abuser so that the child need not get hurt.

A sister, calling for eight months straight, begging a depressed woman to just *wake up.*

A brother, offering a home to a homeless girl he barely knew, knowing he could lose it all.

A best friend, states away, texting daily asking, "How was your day today?"

A father, raising their child alone, because the mother was a worthless piece of shit.

A grandmother, bedridden, struggling to breathe, mouthing: "I love you" with their dying breaths.

A 'villainous' angel, retired from all but anger, teaching humans to rise above their emotions.

A retired 'hell' god, who gave up his happily ever after to protect the streets from his minions.

A trickster, with eyes of gold, who cons people into making deals that save their lives.

A penitent sky god, with the voice of the angels, who watches from afar, guarding the lost.

On and on and on this list goes.

You see, I don't look at people in terms of factions or pasts the way that others do.

I look into their eyes and see their souls.

And judge the shit out of what I see.

Some say I don't judge harshly enough.

Others believe I am the devil incarnate, out to send everyone to hell.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I judge based off of intentions. Context. Circumstances. Beliefs. Honor.

A thousand small details that others would let slip them by, unnoticed.

Me? My ability lies in my ability to See, and Hear, and Speak.

Simple shit, right?

You'd be amazed how few people truly use their Voice, let alone anything else.

I only believe in one form of evil:

The choice to hurt others when it is not truly necessary.

Now, now, don't be so quick to be high and mighty.

We've all done it at some point in time.

Gotten a bit greedy. Lazy, in a way that made someone else work harder.

Selfish, in not sharing our excesses with those less fortunate.

Every form of evil and sin can be forgiven... from within.

Before you get all high and mighty, hold on a second. Listen to what I have to say.

I've met every friggin' spirit this side of creation, and a few across the Veil. (Don't Ask).

Demons, gods, demi-gods, saints, angels, spooks, howlers, ghostly little critters.

Ya freakin' name it, it's out there, and they're all real. That's right. ALL OF THEM.

Your path to Home, as we in the business call 'the enternal resting ground', on the Other Side..

Is not the only one. Or even the best. Or even close to it.

They're all true, and real, and work.

The point is kinda what you do with ya mind, body, heart, and soul along ya journey.

Dude. It really is okay to fuck up. Even a lot. Trust me, we all do it.

Anyone who says otherwise is a fuckin' liar, and don't trust 'em for shit.

You choose your path to go see Father, the Architect.

The Mother. The one that is technically responsible for birthing our fucked up, petty asses.

And truth be told... there really isn't all that much evil in the world.

Just some occasional fuckers who wanna ruin it for the rest of us.

See, every culture has what we like to call "the end of times" prophecy.

They all say it's gonna end one way or another, be it in fire, or ice, or general fuckery and death.

And most all of the humans have settled down into complacency, believing there's No Way Out.

It's my fuckin' job to smack y'all upside the heads, and say *wake up, assholes!*

We *are* the reason for the end times. In a way, we *are* the end times.

Our fucked up apathy, bullshit, and fucking shit up is destroying the world around us.

And each other.

I'm here to say... it doesn't have to end this way.

We don't have to let labels, or divisions, or factions, or doomsday prophecies lull us into giving up.

We can Fight! The real fucking fight! Not each other, not these stupid ass wars.

But to protect the little ones. The children. The innocent. The lost. The suffering.

Fight to give them a world that's better than the one we came up in.

Fuck fighting against good, or evil, or this or that or the other.

Learn to fight to make the world better. Not the other humans and random supernatural shit.

You'd be surprised what you'd learn, and See, and understand if you just decided to.

By the way...

p.s.

I don't care what the definition is, don't call me no fuckin' hero, aight?

Peace for now.
